Basic Entry Requirements
For the Various Programmes at Colbourne College


1. Admission into the Standard Diploma and Fast Track Programme
Continuing education programmes have no formal CXC/GCE requirements.  However,all applicants must sit and pass a basic entry
level exam consisting of English Language and Mathematics.  

Students enrolled in precollege courses get 4-5 CXC/GCE Classes free with the selected programme.


2. Admission into Career and Undergraduate Diploma Programmes

A.  Regular Admission
1. Four Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) or General Certificate of Education (GCE) passes (at a minimum of level 3 or grade C),
which should include English Language.   One Secondary School Certificate (SSC) pass at range 4-5 may be accepted along with the
three CXC and GCE O’level passes.

B. Provisional Admission
High school seniors awaiting external results are given consideration until the results of the examination are available.  However,
students must fulfill the requirements of the acceptance letter within 7 months of application, or the student will be required to withdraw.

C.  Mature Age Entrance
The mature entrance examination is developed for applicants over the age of 25 who has less than the 4 required subjects to enter the
program.  This examination is presented in three sections:
One: English and Mathematics,
Two: General Paper and
Three: a pertinent case study.

A pass mark of 60% must be attained in each section.    

Interviews and recommendations from employers are assessed prior to the granting of admission.  A maximum of nine credits will be
allowed for the first semester.  The student must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.00 to advance to the following semester.   


3. Admission into Degree  Programmes

A.  Regular Admission
1. Five Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) or General Certificate of Education (GCE) passes (at a minimum of level 3 or grade C),
which should include English Language.   One Secondary School Certificate (SSC) pass at range 5 may be accepted along with the
CXC and GCE O’level passes.

2. Transfer from a recognised tertiary institution with at least sophomore standing and a minimum of 32 transferable semester credits
and satisfactory grades.

3.  CPS, CAP, Cambridge Advance diplomas and A levels.

4. A minimum score of 800 on the scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

B. Provisional Admission

Admission

Colbourne College’s admission procedures are fair and non discriminatory.  Applicants who meet the academic and character
requirements of the college and are willing to cooperate and uphold the standards of the institution will be accepted.

Admission to the Colbourne may be withheld or withdrawn at anytime.   All students are expected to maintain acceptable academic
standards and to meet all financial obligations at required times.

How to Apply
All Prospects in receipt of the application package;

1.  Please complete the application form available online or in our admission office.

-    Type or print all information in BLOCK CAPITAL and answer all questions.

-      Read all questions carefully and answer them completely.

-      Read and understand carefully the enrolment agreement before signing and dating the application.

-      Applicants under the age of 18, the parent or guardian must co-sign.

2.  Please supply the following information at registration:

2.1  Proof of passes.

2.3   A resume detailing all academic and occupational work completed.

2.4   Non-refundable application fee of JMD1000 or USD50 for overseas students.

3.   Please supply the following documents no later than 14 days after submitting your application form:

3.1   Official Certified Transcript.

3.2   Copy of birth certificate notarised by a Justice of Peace.

3.3   2 recent recommendations from previous school/employer/senior professionals.

3.4   Medical Certificate  

4.  After procedures 1-3 are completed, the following steps are required:

4.1   You will be assigned a date to complete the College Placement Examination.

4.2   Do photo taking at the admission office i.e students who are studying on campus (distant learners must submit    three passport   
photos notarised by a J.P.)

4.3   Admission Interview

4.5  Collect results of the placement examination.

4.5  Pay your Student Services Deposit (non refundable)

4.6  Complete the registration process with the payment of your Tuition and Fees

4.7  Freshman Orientation

4.8  Class assignments

4.9  Classes Commence


International Students

Colbourne will require all original transcripts along with an English-translated copy to be mailed to us by your high school/college, if you
from a country which mother language is other than English.

International students must be in possession of an official letter of acceptance from Colbourne before they leave their homeland.   
(Applicants will receive acceptance only when they have met the academic standards of the college and have demonstrated the ability to
finance their education at the college).

Before arriving, students must pay all the required tuition and fees and should be in possession of:
1.        An acceptance letter from Colbourne.
2.        An open one year ticket.
3.        A valid visa to enter Jamaica.

Special Application Instructions

Early Admission Applicants
If you are a high school student and wish to attend Colbourne before you graduate, you can take advantage of our high school
enrichment program which allows you to remain in your high school while giving you the opportunity to supplement or enrich your high
school curriculum.

Pre-registration briefings are available throughout the year.
Confirm dates with the admissions office.

Tuition
Tuition is due and payable prior to the commencement of classes.

Late Fees
A late registration charge is attached for students paying after the final published date expire.

Transfer applicants
In addition to all other credentials, you must have final, official transcripts of all previous college work sent directly to the office of
admissions.

Deferred payment
Students unable to pay the tuition in the whole may use a deferred payment form available in the admissions office to request multiple
payments.   Interest is charged on deferred payments.

Financial Obligation Form
Collect a Financial Obligation Form from the office if tuition is payable by a guardian, financial institution, scholarship/bursary,
organisation or others.  An authorising signature and stamp is required in the appropriate area.

Additional Notations and Reminders

  • All relevant information must be submitted to the College prior to the interview.  Students are not to consider themselves
    accepted until they have received a formal letter of acceptance.

  • All materials provided the College by the student, become its property and may not be returned or transferred to other institutions.

  • Application booklets are available from the guidance counselor of your local high school.
