General Education Requirements for the Associate of
Arts /Science Degrees

A minimum of 65 credit hours are required for the Associate Degrees awarded by the
School of Arts and Sciences.   

Candidates for the Associate Degrees must complete the requirements of the General

    WELCOME TO THE SCHOOL OF
               ARTS AND SCIENCES

The School of Arts and Sciences has developed a comprehensive curricula designed to
prepare students for continuing education in undergraduate, graduate or professional
school or for entry into the job market.  The College seeks to improve the intelligence and
imagination of the students and to develop competencies in written and oral
communication, appreciation of our cultural heritage and understanding of our world, a
knowledge base conducive to self growth and enriched life experiences and fundamental
knowledge and research skills essential to lifelong learning.

Expected Outcomes:

Critical Thinking: Students will develop skills in analysis, synthesis, evaluation, decision-
making, and problem-solving.

Communication Skills: Students will develop reading, writing, active listening, and public
speaking skills.

Interpersonal Skills: Students will develop effective teamwork, ethical consciousness,
conflict resolution, and workplace skills.

Information Management: Students will develop skills in collecting and analyzing data from
a variety of sources.

Community: Students will develop an awareness of our interdependence as global citizens
combined with an understanding of the history, culture, diversity, and commonality of life’s
experiences.

Life-long Learning: Students will develop a life-long habit of pursuing knowledge.
