Business Administration




Course Index: AS01BA

The Associate Degree in Business Administration is equivalent to the first two years of the Bachelors Degree in
Business Administration.  The programme is instructed over 64 weeks and normally takes two years for completion
beyond the high School Diploma.  
                                                                                     
Following are the Education requirements for the Associate Degree.
-        No less than 65 semester credits of coursework.
-        A minimum grade point average of 2.00 (C).
-        Completion of the General Core Component.
-        Up to one credit in physical education may be earned.
-        A cumulative grade point average of 2.25(C+) for courses in the major field.

The Objectives of the Associate Degree:
- To prepare the student with the essential prerequisite for further studies.
- To equip the student with specialised knowledge to enter the work force as a well rounded business person.
- To develop competencies which satisfy the needs of a changing global economy.
- To create a formal foundation for continuous learning.

General Education Requirements:
1. General Studies    24 Credits
2. Core Component : 29 Credits.
3. Electives:                 9 Credits


Admission Requirements for the Undergraduate Diploma

Students are admitted to the Diploma Program based on a number of factors.  


1. REGULAR ADMISSIONS

For Regular Admission students are required to provide evidence of passes in five Caribbean Examination Council
(CXC) or General Certificate of Education (GCE) passes (at a minimum of level 3 or grade C), which should include
English Language.   One Secondary School Certificate (SSC) pass at range 4 or 5 may be accepted along with the
four CXC and GCE O’level passes.

2. PROVISIONAL ADMISSIONS

Provisional Admission is granted to high school seniors awaiting external results
until the results of the
examination are available.  However, students must fulfill the requirements of the acceptance letter within 7 months of
application, or the student will be required to withdraw.

Provisions are in place for Mature Age Students with less than the required passes.  The mature entrance
examination is developed for applicants over the age of 25 who have less than the five required subjects to enter the
program.  This examination is presented in three sections: English and Mathematics, General Paper and a pertinent
case study.    

Additionally, Interviews and recommendations from employers are assessed prior to the granting of admission.  A
maximum of nine credits will be allowed for the first semester.  The student must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.00 to
advance to the following semester.

One course in Information Technology or equivalent
proficiency.
One course in Religion.
Two courses in the social sciences:  sociology, psychology,
economics, political sciences, international relations.
